2018 LVYSL Round Robin Entrance Open through Nov. 9

2018 LVYSL Round Robin Entrance Open through Nov. 9

The Lehigh Valley Youth Soccer League is pleased to announce that its 2018 Round Robin is scheduled for Nov. 17-18 at Lehigh County Sports Field in Allentown.

The 2018 Round Robin is designed for high-school aged boys and girls teams that did not have the opportunity to play a fall season due to the PIAA season. The Round Robin fulfills the qualifying criteria that qualifies teams for the various EPYS “State Cup” competitions that take place in the spring of 2019.

The application is open now through November 9, 2018. Select Large-Sided Primary Season for $500. Teams must be registered with EPYS (epysa.org) in order to enter. Please write down your log-in email, team number and PIN (password). Edit the application using your team log-in link.

According to EPYS:

“Teams applying for cup competition must compete in a minimum four (4) team approved league (a US Youth approved League with a minimum of 4 teams) during the current seasonal year affiliated with Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer, the US Youth Soccer Regional League or the US Youth Soccer National League, or with Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer’s permission in another State Association. The league competition must consist of a minimum of one game against each of three (3) different teams participating in the league. For teams playing in late winter or spring leagues, the team must have played at least one (1) league game prior to the start of the cup competition. The team must complete their full league schedule.”

Under past circumstances, teams play in one division. If enough teams enter the 2018 Round Robin, it is possible to break it down by gender and/or age group. The main intent, however is to help our high-school aged teams meet the State Cup qualifying criteria.

As you are all aware, the weather has been a factor for both spring and fall in 2018. Games scheduled at the Lehigh County fields are often postponed at the field authority’s discretion due to wet weather.

We have made numerous attempts to secure alternate fields, but most public fields are closing down after the weekend of Nov. 17-18 to “rest” their fields. We also looked into the possibility of renting some of the artificial turf fields in the Lehigh Valley region, but they are cost prohibitive because they are rental-by-hour, along with additional hourly fees for one or two field managers.

In case of inclement weather and field closures during the scheduled weekend, we will work with the teams entered to find alternate dates and sites.

The main emphasis is to get at least one game in during the weekend of Nov. 17-18 so that all teams are then State Cup eligible. If necessary, the remaining two games could be shifted to either the weekend after Thanksgiving or the first weekend of December if we can find available fields, or sometime in the spring, if necessary, to wrap it up.
