Player Dress - a message from Jeff DeLuca, SDI
To All Instructors: From Jeff DeLuca, SDI Subj: Player Dress
A situation recently arose in one of our youth leagues in which a referee prevented a player from participating in a match because he was wearing a turban of Dastar, which he is required to wear as part of his religious beliefs as a member of the Sikhs religious sect.
Instructors are to remind their referees and discuss with them the 2002 memorandum on PLAYER DRESS, a copy of which is attached at the earliest opportunity. A copy of the memorandum , will also be placed on the website for referees to review. I request that a copy of the memorandum be placed on all chapter websites, in addition to the state website.
Please cover with your referees that even though permission is given to those bound by religious law to wear such head coverings, the referee must see that the headgear does not pose a danger to the player wearing it or to the other players.
Should there be any questions, please contact me.
